* Please pardon my commentary during this post. It's difficult for me to sit and write this post without jumping out of my seat in happiness (or ugly crying):
Words cannot express the immense amount of gratitude, deep respect, inspiration, and adoration that I have for Albert Torres and his successful 'Limitless division' at the 2015 World Latin Dance Cup.
From the first time that I met Albert, he has been a pioneer in helping Limitless become a movement for change and revelation. Albert has always encouraged us to continue with our dream of building a more 'limitless' world, and supported us every step of the way. Publicly, he has also historically established himself as an icon reminding me (and everyone else) to fight our individual struggles with perseverence and creativity, promoting personal integrity while taking on the world, and appreciating beauty and grace from the humblest roots. Still, it was a tremendous surprise when he approached me with the idea to create the first ever 'Limitless' division as part of the World Latin Dance Cup in 2014. Not only was it an incredibly humbling gesture, but it also reinforced how much movement we have been able to create in such a short amount of time. (woop woop!)
The 2015 Limitless division saw participants representing countries from around the world including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Lebanon, Turkey, etc. (CRAZY, right?!!!!) Additionally, we were able to showcase the incredible manner of expression from dancers of all abilities. There is no way to describe how breathtaking it was to watch Regan & Paul's smile light up the stage in Miami, or Deividi & Paloma's incredible sass and energy, or Marisa & Adelfo's elegant beauty, or George & Ramya's unparalleled connection to each other and the music, or Fadi & Maya's gorgeous lines and brilliant choreography. It was truly one of the most unforgettable and amazing moment for me personally and for the rest of the Limitless family. It was a year of many firsts: On an international level, the WLDC saw Lebanon represent their country with pride, the world's first visually-impaired couple, and a triumphant presence on stage from Winnipeg. For Limitless, it was our first time travelling together, first international Limitless workshop, first time eating legit Cuban food, and many other incredible moments. I'm pretty sure ever single one of us cried at least a couple of times all weekend long (I know I did O_O). It's hard not to be emotional when you're overwhelmed with pure joy, accomplishment, and love for what is unfolding before you.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in some way in all of the moments leading up to Miami and today (especially our Day 1's... we love you!). To all of the promoters and powerful individuals who have helped to push Limitless beyond ourselves (PUN: push us beyond our limits!) and slingshot us into this position, we are blessed to have you and are forever grateful for you. We would not have been able to enjoy all of this incredibleness without everyone's encouragement and loving fortidue.
To my team, thank you for all of your time, energy, excitement, creativity, and dedication to me and this Limitless family. Juice, Molo, Jesse, Lemont, Louis, Mike, Jessica, Alexis, Gwen, Ted: you guys are the best. I know that I, personally, had at least 2-3 breakdowns along the way (hahah such a lie! more like 50), but your tenacity and reassurance continues to motivate and drive me. I also cannot tell you how happy I am to see you all succeed and grow both on- and off- stage. You all deserve the best in this world, and I am honored to call you my friends and family. You truly exemplify and are the living testimony of what living a limitless life is about. I love you all so much and cannot wait to see what more the future has in store for us all. Let your greatness shine!
